About M1R Careers

Built by someone who had to work this out the hard way

M1R Careers is the careers division of M1R Alliance — the Australian community and directory for veterans, first responders and the businesses they run. Same organisation, same people, aimed at a different problem.

Why this exists

The advice was either generic or for sale

M1R Alliance was built because veteran and first responder owned businesses were invisible. Careers came out of the same observation applied one step earlier: long before someone starts a business, they have to get through the transition — and the support available is either generic employment advice that ignores what service actually taught them, or a sales process with a qualification at the end of it.

What was missing was someone who understood both sides well enough to look at a service record and say: here is what that is worth outside, here is what is genuinely missing, and here is the part where you are being sold something you do not need.

That judgement is the actual product. The forms and the templates are just how we collect enough information to apply it.

How we operate

Four commitments

These are constraints on the business, not marketing lines. Two of them cost us money on purpose.

Tell people the truth about the gap

The commercially convenient answer is almost always that you need a qualification. It is frequently not the correct one. Where the real problem is a resume, some industry exposure or an introduction, we say so — even when saying so costs us a referral fee.

Never charge a candidate for access to work

Registration, assessment and applications are free and will stay free. Nobody buys their way to the front of a shortlist here, and no paid service makes an employer more likely to see you. Suitability is the only thing that moves a candidate forward.

Test recommendations against the real market

Before we suggest a pathway we look at what is currently advertised — the experience, qualifications, licences and salaries employers are genuinely asking for. Career advice that has not been checked against live vacancies is guesswork.

Be specific about money

Vague reassurance helps nobody make a decision about their family's income. We publish indicative salary ranges, we date them, and we tell you when a pathway starts lower than your service package before it climbs.

Transparency

How M1R Careers makes money

You are entitled to know who pays us before you take our advice. Here it is in full.

Employers pay placement fees

When we introduce a candidate and an employer hires them, the employer pays us. This is the main way M1R Careers is funded, and it is why the candidate side can stay free.

Candidates can buy optional services

A full written career map, a professional resume rewrite, LinkedIn positioning and one-to-one coaching are paid services for people who want them. They are optional, they are fixed-price, and they do not affect how you are considered for a role.

Training referral fees, always disclosed

Where we refer someone to a training provider we may receive a referral commission. Wherever that applies, it is stated on the page. The assessment stays independent of it — if you do not need the course, our advice is not to do it.

Employer partnerships and sponsorship

Businesses can partner with M1R Alliance to reach the community. Sponsorship never buys a favourable assessment, a podcast interview or preferential candidate access.

The full detail — including how candidate consent works, what we do with your information, and the limits of what we can promise — is set out in the candidate and employer terms.

Part of something bigger

M1R Careers, powered by M1R Alliance

Careers is one part of a community that also runs a national directory of veteran and first responder owned businesses, a wellness hub, events, and support for people starting their own business. If the honest answer to your assessment is that you should be working for yourself rather than someone else, you are already in the right place for that too.

Start a conversation

No pitch, no obligation. Tell us roughly where you are and we will tell you what we would do next in your position.

How M1R Careers works. Registering as a candidate, completing a career assessment and applying for roles is free, and always will be. Purchasing coaching, training or membership does not guarantee employment, preferential access to vacancies, or representation to employers — candidates are considered on suitability alone, and recruitment services are never conditional on buying anything. Where we receive a referral fee from a training provider, we say so on the page. Read the full candidate and employer terms.
